5 Great Gardening Blogs

Whether because of rain or cold or, in my case, a lazy, post-holiday hibernation, this time of year many of us tend to spend more time indoors and less time in our gardens.  I like to use it for planning and gaining inspiration for my garden by curling up with a cup of coffee and a good blog.  Here are some of my favorites:

Garden Rant
With many contributors (including former Behnke’s blogger, Susan Harris), topics range from informative to entertaining.  I could spend hours on this one because there is just so much good content.

Gardenista
This is one of my go-to’s for inspiration.  It’s upscale and trendy, but still has lots of great information, not to mention beautiful photos of lush gardens.

The Horticult
Part lifestyle blog, part project and plant diary, I love reading about how this California couple has transformed their small, concrete, rental backyard into a plant-lover’s paradise.   Though they live in L.A. and grow things I can’t and though they haven’t posted much recently, their past projects are so interesting and unique, that I come back time and again for inspiration to jumpstart my own creativity.

Growing with Plants
Written by Matt Mattus, a plant hobbyist who’s passionate about hard-to-find specimens, growing food, garden design and much more, it’s more journal than textbook.  I enjoy getting to know him through his projects and myriad interesting plants.

A Way to Garden
Written by a former, long-time garden writer for Martha Stewart Living, so you know it’s going to be good.  From recipes to bird watching to deer-resistant plants, Mary Roach covers an incredible amount of gardening ground.

  1. I think the list covered some great gardening blogs. All five blogs are great but out of this I like The Horticult and Growing with Plants as best. And Matt Mattus of Growing with Plants shared some really great post. Thanks for sharing the list and eagerly waiting to see more such informative posts.
