It is a well known fact in my family that I am never ever without my camera and like any other grandmother I love to share. This past Sunday, our grandson came for a visit and of course as soon as his parents left for their movie date, my husband and I walked next door to visit my in-laws with the little guy!
Aaron was so excited because he knew that meant being outside and exploring. My mother-in-law has created the most amazing garden behind her home this year. With raised garden beds full of peas, onions and other delicious vegetables, this year she added her table-top gardens filled with carrots, radishes and more. Also, while it is hard to see in the photo, she took old whiskey barrels and filled them with peppers and tomatoes along with some summer annuals for color.
Aaron had a great time helping water all the plants while Great Grandma took the time to explain to him everything that was in the garden. Then we were off to the BIG GARDEN as Aaron calls it. Of course we had to walk IN the garden but that was okay… I am sure a few weeds were pulled along the way.
The plan is to finish tilling this week and start planting all the other vegetables plants. I often laugh because between us all we grow so many vegetables it seems like we can feed the whole community. I tend to bring all of our extra produce to the nursery to share with co-workers, and my in-laws are always haring their bounty with the senior center they belong to.
Oh, and do you see that cute little blue and white flower in the second row? Oh wait, that’s Aaron! There went a tulip but who cares! We have a great selection of vegetable plants at both of our garden centers, plus check out our Beltsville Raised Garden Bed demonstration planting while you’re picking out your peppers and tomatoes!
