Behnkes First Recipe Contest

Our first recipe contest was a huge success! The judges had a wonderful time and left very happy and full! In the photo above from are judges Gloria Lawlah, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Aging, Craig Muckle of Safeway, Sonja Behnke Festerling, former President of Behnke Nurseries, and Senior Service America, Tony Sarmiento!

Behind the judges are a few of the contestants: Elizabeth Olson; Tony Carbo; Donna Koczaja and her husband, Nicolas Tardif . The winning recipe, which will be served at the Maryland Deptartment of Aging's Garden Party on Sept 14 at the Laurel Boys and Girls Club, was Donna Nejako's Marinated Tomatoes.

Here is the Winning Recipe.......

Marinated Tomatoes

2 cups tomatoes sliced
3 tsp vegetable oil
1 1/2 TBSP CIder Vinegar
1 1/2 tsp Parsley flakes
1 TBSP dehydrated onion flakes
1/2 tsp table salt
1/2 clove garlic cloves minced
3 TBSP reduced fat parmesan cheese

Place Tomatoes in Bowl
Combine the remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour dressing over the tomatoes and marinate for 4 hours (if you have time - if not you can eat them right away (They are better if they marinate but I often serve right away and very good)
