I have written before about all of the store fixtures that many of you bought before we closed. So many have shared what they used them for, which has been fantastic.
A few weeks ago, Jennifer Brown contacted me about buying some of the benches left at the nursery. She told me that they would be for the Audubon Naturalist Society located in Chevy Chase.
When we met at the nursery, Jennifer described the remains of their historic greenhouse on their 40 acres that they plan to restore one day. The benches would be used on the side of the greenhouse structure. They grow many of the plants they use all over the property.
The Society offers a range of summer camps and other activities for children plus families, as well as outreach programs to local schools and training for teachers. At this point, I knew that we would go ahead and donate whatever they needed.
Jennifer and her husband came the following week with a truck and loaded up what they felt they could use. Again, I will say it makes my heart happy to know that so many things we had at the garden center have found new homes. They sent me a photo of what they did with the benches that I wanted to share with you.
I looked up their website and was so impressed with what they are doing. The Audubon Naturalist Society is an environmental non-profit organization located at 8940 Jones Mill Road, Chevy Chase, MD 20815. It is open to the public, free, every day dawn to dusk. How great is that!
Their website is full of terrific information about how to donate and what they have going on there. I hope you can find time to check them out this summer. Maybe call first because of the COVID-19 and find out if they have any requirements before you go.
