I got to spend some time last week with some very special women. I stopped in to say hello to Becky and her husband Nick. Many might remember Becky who ran our customer service and cashiers for many years. As with all of you, it has been way too long since I have been able to visit.
Then I was off to a small get-together at another former Behnke Best home in Beltsville. These ladies have been having these potluck dinners for years. Some of them worked at Behnke’s in the ’70 as teenagers.
While talking about old times, our hostess jumped up and told me she had something for me. As she brought me this large framed photograph she said she really did not have the place for it. It seems that another in the room had given it to her when she was downsizing for a move to Florida. This was a photograph of many of Behnke’s Best in 1984 as they treated my grandfather Albert Behnke on his 80th birthday. Luckily on the back, Lori had written everyone’s name down which was nice.
I kept looking at this LARGE framed pictures trying my best to figure out just what I would do with it as everyone was pointing out different people. You have to understand, when we closed the nursery down in 2019 I ended up with so much memorabilia. This included many photographs like this one.
At some point, I noticed one woman was really enjoying it and I decided to re-gift it as it was just re-gifted to me. I snapped a photo of the photo for this article and made someone else very happy. At least I hope so. I guess if I see it in someone else’s hands down the road I will know that the picture lives on like a good fruitcake. Best shared with loved ones.
