Having raised garden beds is a great way to grow your vegetables if you are limited on space or just do not want to have to have that big garden anymore. You can find all sorts of different types of raised gardens or build your own.
A few months ago, I mentioned I was going to try growing broccoli in a container. BIG FAIL. I am not sure if they just got too wet, but while they were rooted, they never grew, so we finally tossed them out. However, when I bought my six-pack from the garden center, I gave my in-laws the rest. SUCCESS!
My in-laws, Jane & Marshall Fleming, for the last few years, have been using raised garden beds for their vegetable garden. When I mentioned my broccoli never did anything, they told me how much they have already enjoyed theirs. What? I had to walk up and see. Beautiful plants. Since I took these photos, they have had more meals, and more heads have appeared.
This vegetable garden is located right behind their home in the full sun. It always is impressive to see just how much produce they can get from such a small area. This year they got another raised garden bed for her parsnips. Also planted are peppers, carrots, cucumbers, and squash. It appears to me they will have another successful year!
