The Cat Grass Seed Project

cat grass project

With a new kitten, comes the responsibility of giving her all the things she needs. A cat condo, special cat dish, toys and of course her own patch of Cat Grass. While at the pet store we saw pots of Cat Grass and Cat Nip for for sale but I remembered our friends at Botanical Interest had both in seed packs so as soon as I got home I placed my order. I love the way they packaged the seeds in a pretty box that my granddaughter claimed for her treasures. We got planting instructions and a FREE thank you pack of seeds for next spring.

Zoe, our 4 year old granddaughter wanted to help with this project and did a wonderful job. How exciting that in a few days, the cat grass started popping up. Before we knew it we had a nice pot full. The cat nip is slower but today I did see a few sprouts peeking up. Zoe listened carefully as we read the instructions on the back of the seed pack and took her time planting each seed just right. The grass seed that is, since the cat nip was very tiny. She used her hands to help cover the seeds and loved getting the spray bottle out to keep the seeds moist.

I had forgotten how gratifying it is to see the excitement in a child’s eyes as something as simple as a pack of seeds comes to life. Monday we measured how tall the grass was and found out it was the purrfect height for our kitten Bella to check out. It did not take long before Bella had her head in the grass and was chowing down. Then her front paws! Success! She loved it and Zoe has been having fun with the whole process. I hope you think about trying your hand at growing something by seed. The cost is pennies and the rewards are many.
