Labor Day is over, the children have gone back to school and wait… is that the smell of pumpkin spice in the air? I am really trying to hang on to the last of summer because I love warm weather and well, Fall means Winter is around the corner. Wait! Fall? I love Fall. I love getting pumpkins and cornstalks and picking out what color garden mum I will be putting on my front porch each year. And now I am faced with the same question you have been asking us since we announced we were closing. Where am I going to get my plants? Where indeed? I will let you in on something. I have been spending a good bit of time checking out different garden centers, and I am happy to say, there is life after Behnke’s.
You owe it to yourself to take time and find some local independent garden centers (IGC’s) and check them out. “Why not go to a box store?,” you might ask. Because when you go to an IGC, you are supporting a small business. You will find familiar faces of people that love what they do. They love plants and gardening and want to share their love with you and your garden. You might even see some former Behnke employees!
For me, I plan to get some beautiful yellow and red garden mum along with a flat of pansies to plant in my porch pots. With our big tree down I now have more room and sun, and I am hoping to find the perfect containers to plant up. Corn Stalks on my porch posts and a few pumpkins! Voila! I am done!
